The Jamaica Cycling Federation is encouraging its members to support the international effort to promote World Suicide Prevention Day Cycle Around the Globe on Sunday, September 9. Cyclists worldwide are being asked to commit to riding several kilometers this Sunday and log their miles on the World Suicide Prevention Day website. Cyclists can register their mileage or kilometers through the Federation’s website at www.jamaicacycling.com . Last year 287 participants and groups in 48 countries cycled 222,323.55 miles or 357,796.08 kilometers, or 9 times the circumference of the Earth, in support of World Suicide Prevention Day.
World Suicide Day is being observed this Sunday, September 9, and promoted locally by the Donovan Thomas led Choose Life International, which is celebrating 10 years of suicide-prevention activities.
President of the Cycling Federation Joylene Griffiths says in the past riders have supported the Cycle Around the Globe but this year they are supporting the cause through Choose Life International. “This is a way for the Federation to demonstrate its corporate social responsibility by supporting a worthy cause which also allows members do an activity they love”, she said.
